Reps Minority Caucus Pledges Constructive Opposition, Benchmarks Gbajabiamila

The House of Representatives minority caucus has pledged to play a constructive opposition role, benchmarking its approach on the model of former Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila’s tenure from 2011 to 2015.

Punch reported that Deputy Minority Leader Abdussamad Dasuki made the pledge while receiving constituents from Kebbe and Tambuwal federal constituencies in Sokoto State.

Dasuki said the minority caucus would hold the ruling party accountable while working with the government on matters of national interest.

ThisDay separately confirmed the development, reporting that Dasuki called for cooperation among Northern governors on security and urged stronger engagement with neighbouring Niger Republic.

The caucus said it would focus on legislative oversight, constructive engagement and policy alternatives rather than blanket obstruction.
