Tinubu Appoints Ex-UNILAG VC Ogundipe As NUC Chairman
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, as Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Universities Commission.
The appointment was announced in a statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga. Ogundipe succeeds Emeritus Professor Olufemi Raphael Aina, who resigned less than a year after he was appointed to the role.
Punch and TheCable reported that the Presidency said Ogundipe would oversee the regulatory body for Nigeria’s university system, with attention on funding, global competitiveness and academic stability.
The Presidency also said the appointment is aimed at advancing quality, access and integrity in the education sector, while sustaining the credibility of the Nigerian university system under Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Ogundipe, a professor of Botany, served as UNILAG Vice-Chancellor from 2017 to 2022. TheCable reported that he holds a PhD in Botany from Obafemi Awolowo University and an MBA from the University of Lagos.
The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Nigerian Senate.
