Lagos Police Foil Alleged Plot To Traffic Three Kaduna Girls To Ivory Coast

Lagos police say they have arrested a woman accused of trying to traffic three young women from Kaduna State to Ivory Coast for prostitution.

The case began after the girls, aged between 18 and 20, were allegedly brought to Lagos with the promise of legitimate restaurant work. Reports by Daily Post and Premium Times, citing the News Agency of Nigeria, said the suspect later disclosed a plan to send them out of the country.

The victims had arrived in Ajegunle on May 23 before one of them objected to the alleged plan and reported the matter to the police.

Lagos Commissioner of Police Fatai Tijani directed that the case be moved from Tolu Division in Ajegunle to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yaba.

The Anti-Human Trafficking and Gender Unit of the SCID is handling the investigation under Deputy Commissioner of Police Dayo Akinbisehin.

A police source quoted in the reports said the girls were not told about any plan to take them abroad before they left Kaduna. The source said one victim rejected the move after learning that the promised job was allegedly a cover for prostitution.

Detectives later arrested the suspect after the complaint was lodged. Police are investigating allegations of conspiracy, deception and human trafficking.

The suspect has not been convicted, and the allegations remain under investigation unless a court decides otherwise.
