NARD Gives FG 21 Days to Protect Doctors and Resolve Key Health Demands

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors has given the Federal Government 21 days to act on security and welfare demands or face a possible nationwide confrontation with the country’s resident doctors.

The resolution was reached at the association’s ordinary general meeting in Kano, where delegates reviewed recent assaults on health workers and a wider list of unresolved sector demands.

Protection of Doctors Moves to the Front Burner

Channels Television reported that NARD asked the government to develop a national protection framework for doctors and other healthcare workers after a string of attacks in hospitals and during law-enforcement operations.

The association said the climate in many facilities has become too unsafe for frontline staff and warned that repeated assaults cannot be treated as routine incidents.

Wider Disputes Still Unresolved

Beyond security, the doctors are also pressing for movement on long-running issues tied to residency training, arrears and the broader working conditions in public hospitals. Punch Healthwise separately reported that NARD and the Nigerian Medical Association are pushing for tougher legal penalties for assaults on doctors.

The ultimatum keeps pressure on the government at a time when the health sector is already strained by staffing shortages and repeated labour disputes.
