UITH Doctors Protest After Female Doctor Is Assaulted
Doctors at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital have protested after a female doctor was allegedly assaulted following the death of a two-year-old child at the hospital.
Daily Post reported that the child died in the paediatric emergency ward on Wednesday while undergoing treatment. The report said the child’s father, identified as Emmanuel Olatunji, allegedly attacked the doctor after hearing of the death.
The report said the doctor had earlier helped provide an admission pack for the child on humanitarian grounds. The father was reportedly arrested, while the doctor was receiving treatment.
The incident led to a five-day strike by doctors at the hospital. Guardian also reported that doctors protested the assault on their colleague and demanded better protection for health workers.
The case has renewed concern over violence against medical workers and the pressure on hospitals handling emergency cases.
