Military Alerts of Planned Terrorist Attacks During Eid-el-Kabir in Northeast

The Nigerian military has warned that Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists may attack civilian targets during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations in the Northeast.

Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), issued a security advisory on Monday in Maiduguri, alerting the public to possible suicide bombings and improvised explosive device attacks during the festivities.

“The terrorists may target areas of high population concentration during the celebrations,” said Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, OPHK spokesperson. He said troops have been “forward deployed to critical and vulnerable areas.”

The advisory warned that insurgents may exploit large gatherings at prayer grounds, markets, and recreational centres during Sallah. The Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, has directed troops to maintain high alert and conduct aggressive patrols throughout the period.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies. The warning comes as the military continues its campaign against insurgents in the region.
