Cubana Chief Priest is speaking out after his defeat in the APC House of Representatives primary in Imo State, claiming he actually withdrew from the race before voting took place.

The flamboyant socialite, whose real name is Pascal Okechukwu, took to his Instagram Stories on Sunday to explain his version of events. According to him, he was never actually defeated at the polls because he had already pulled out of the contest following consultations with party leaders.

“Following my consultations and meeting with our leader of the party in the state and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, His Excellency presented the position of the party regarding zoning within the Federal Constituency,” Cubana wrote.

He said Governor Uzodimma argued that it was not the turn of his Local Government Area to occupy the seat, especially since his elder brother, Asiwaju Jerry Alagboso, had previously served three terms in the House. Oru East, where his brother comes from, currently has the governor in office, so Cubana said he understood the fairness of letting the incumbent representative, Canice More Nwachukwu, seek another term.

“At the end of the consultations, the party adopted its zoning arrangement and selected preferred aspirants, asking them to proceed to the field,” he explained. “In respect for the party and its leadership, I chose not to proceed to the field, and indeed, I never did. Nobody will say they saw me anywhere around the primary venue.”

Cubana insisted he returned to Lagos immediately after the party’s decision was communicated to him in the early hours of Saturday, before the primaries commenced. “Those from my constituency can attest to the fact that I was not seen at any primary election venue,” he stated.

Earlier reports had indicated that Cubana lost the primary with just 14 votes, a result that drew significant social media attention and ridicule. His statement appears to be an attempt to reframe the narrative around his brief political outing.

Despite stepping back from the race, Cubana affirmed his continued loyalty to the APC and President Tinubu, saying he remains “a loyal party man and committed progressive.”
