Davido has been named a 2026 inductee into the Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame in Atlanta, Georgia — joining a select group of legends that includes gospel icon Paul S. Morton, rapper Ludacris, and the late former Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson. The induction ceremony is set for June 1 in Atlanta’s Historic Westside, along Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

For Nigerian music, this is a genuinely big deal. Davido becomes only the second Nigerian artist ever honoured by the Walk of Fame. The first was Fela Kuti.

What the Recognition Means

The Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame was established in 2021 by the Black American Music Association and the Georgia Entertainment Caucus. Previous honourees include Beyoncé, Usher, Stevie Wonder, and Mary J. Blige. Getting a plaque on that walkway puts you in that company.

Davido’s induction also coincides with 15 years in music. He released his debut single “Back When” in 2011 and has since built one of the biggest careers in African music history — multiple platinum albums, Grammy nominations for his 2023 project Timeless, and a global fanbase that stretches well beyond Nigeria.

Afrobeats Is Not Going Anywhere

The Walk of Fame’s decision to honour Davido reflects something broader: Afrobeats is no longer knocking on the door of mainstream global culture. It has walked in and sat down. Between this and Burna Boy’s FIFA World Cup anthem, May 2026 is shaping up to be a big month for Nigerian music internationally.

The ceremony in Atlanta holds on June 1. No word yet on whether Davido will attend in person.
