Funke Akindele is not here for the drama. The filmmaker and actress pushed back on Sunday against a viral video that claimed she snubbed veteran Fuji singer Wasiu Alabi Pasuma at a recent event — and she made her response as clear as possible.

What the video showed — and what it left out

The clip, posted by X user @UOladiti with the caption “Moment Funke Akindele snubbed Pasuma in public. This is not looking good at all,” showed Akindele at Faithia Williams’ 55th birthday party, appearing to pay Pasuma little attention while chatting with actress Fathia Balogun. The edited clip spread fast and people had plenty to say.

Akindele wasn’t having it. She retweeted the video directly and wrote: “Snub? Hell no. Stop the negativity pls. I saw him, greeted him, and danced with him. Pasuma is my egbon. Pls you all should stop this evil.”

She also reposted an extended version of the footage — one that showed her warmly greeting Pasuma, the two of them smiling and engaging before she moved on to other guests. It turns out the viral clip had been selectively cut to remove exactly that part of the exchange.

Twitter sides with Funke — mostly

Reactions online were mixed, though many accepted her explanation once the longer video circulated. @MiriamO2703 pushed back slightly: “We saw videos of you both exchanging greetings… you would have posted it to counter this narrative. Nigerians lets abolish toxicity.” Others were more sympathetic: @officialjessib1 told her to “just ignore them nah.”

Not everyone was satisfied though. @BeenpaidRy cut straight to the point: “E don reach Pasuma turn, you don come online. E reach Toyin Abraham turn, you keep quiet. So you purposely snubbed Toyin?” It’s a fair observation — Akindele has not addressed the Toyin Abraham situation, which is still very much alive in public conversation.

That incident happened at the premiere of Iyabo Ojo’s film The Return of Arinzo, where a clip showed Akindele appearing to ignore Toyin Abraham’s greeting. Toyin publicly vowed never to greet Akindele again, unfollowed her, and Akindele reportedly acknowledged Toyin’s post by liking it on a blog. No direct response from Akindele on that one. The Pasuma response only reminded people of that silence.

Still, the Pasuma drama appears to be closed. The original video was edited and misleading. Akindele greeted him, danced with him and called him her senior. That should be the end of it — though with Nollywood’s social media ecosystem, things rarely stay quiet for long.
