The Nigerian Army says its troops rescued 119 abducted civilians and recovered eight vehicles during an operation in Borno State.

A military operational report released in Abuja on Saturday said soldiers from 135 Special Forces Battalion intervened after surveillance cameras detected an abduction along the Dutsen Kura–Bulazarma–Kamuya road.

The report said the soldiers advanced through Mangari–Dora in Biu Local Government Area, engaged the attackers and recovered the civilians and vehicles after the attackers fled.

The rescued civilians were subsequently reunited with their families, according to the military account.

Daily Post, citing security sources quoted by counter-insurgency analyst Zagazola Makama, put the operation at 3.45pm on Friday. Its account said a team from 27 Task Force Brigade headquarters joined the battalion’s response.

The military report did not identify those responsible for the abduction or announce arrests linked to the operation.
