The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says it has recovered an intact cockpit voice recorder from its ATR-42 aircraft that crashed at Igbokoda, Ondo State, on 5 October.

Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the NAF’s director of public relations and information, announced the recovery in a statement on Friday.

He said technical teams from the NAF and Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau had confirmed the recorder was intact, while only part of the flight data recorder had been retrieved.

Teams are still searching for the rest of the flight data recorder. Ejodame said additional wreckage and engine components had also been recovered from the swamp.

The recovery follows the earlier search for both flight recorders. The aircraft was travelling from Benin City, Edo State, to Lagos when it crashed near the Navy’s base in Igbokoda. All 25 people on board were killed, Premium Times reported.

Ejodame said the swampy terrain continued to complicate recovery work and that outstanding components were needed for technical examinations. The investigation into the crash remains under way.

The Air Force said it was maintaining contact with victims’ families and engaging relevant authorities over environmental concerns raised by the host community. It said further verified updates would be provided as appropriate.
