The Nigerian Air Force says it will work with environmental and public-health authorities to assess concerns in Igbokoda, Ondo State, once recovery of its crashed aircraft is complete.
The commitment follows residents’ complaints about an offensive smell and fears about the crash’s environmental effects. Search and recovery work is still under way.
Air Force spokesperson Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame announced the planned engagement in a statement on Thursday, October 15. He said the service would coordinate action with the relevant authorities to address any environmental concerns identified by the assessment.
The Air Force said it was continuing to work with partner agencies to recover the wreckage safely and acknowledged the discomfort and uncertainty residents were experiencing.
Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa had earlier directed the environment and health ministries to fumigate the river and provide nose masks and other health kits. He also ordered arrangements for water tankers if the river is found to be severely polluted and unsuitable for use. NaijaTrend reported those directives here.
