President Bola Tinubu travels to Uyo on Friday to commission a new international terminal at Victor Attah International Airport and other Akwa Ibom State projects, before an APC rally in Port Harcourt on Saturday.

Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy, announced the two-state visit on Thursday. He said Tinubu would also attend a political rally in Uyo, and that Governor Umo Eno had declared Friday a work-free day in the state.

Parts of Uyo will be closed to traffic during the visit. Akwa Ibom Police Commissioner Baba Azare said Airport Road, Iron Road and Ring Road 3, which lead to the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, would be restricted, and advised residents to avoid the convoy’s routes.

Azare, speaking at a news conference in Uyo, also banned drones, fireworks and other devices that could cause panic. He asked other political parties to reschedule activities planned for Friday.

Besides the terminal, the projects due to be commissioned at the airport are the International Airport Hospital and the Ibom Aviation Village, Onanuga said. The list also includes the Airport–Okopedi Road in Nsit Atai and Okobo local government areas, and Ring Road 3, which links Idoro Road to Ikot Ekpene Road.

The others are the AKWA-GIS office complex, a command and control centre and the ARISE Palm Resort.

The airport began international flights in May.

Tinubu leaves for Port Harcourt on Saturday. The rally there will be his third since he launched his re-election campaign in Kaduna last month, Onanuga said.
