Kaduna Governor Uba Sani has raised the All Progressives Congress’s target for the 2027 elections in the state from two million to three million votes after receiving politicians who left the African Democratic Congress.

He announced the target at a ceremony in Zaria on Saturday to welcome Muhammad Bashir Sa’idu, a former chief of staff and finance commissioner under Nasir El-Rufai, and other defectors.

Those joining the APC included former education commissioner and ADC governorship aspirant Jafaru Sani, and former senator Suleiman Abdu Kwari, who also served as finance commissioner under El-Rufai.

Sa’idu said his Kaduna De-Initiatives group had decided to return to the APC after a steering committee meeting. He claimed that about 100,000 card-carrying ADC members had returned a month earlier and that more than 100,000 additional defectors had since joined. Those are his figures, rather than an independently verified membership count.

Premium Times reported that the defections followed disagreements over the ADC governorship primary, won by Isah Ashiru. Jafaru Sani, who also contested, rejected the result and alleged irregularities.

The governor said the APC would conduct house-to-house campaigns across Kaduna. He linked his appeal for votes to federal projects and appointments in the state, including Tajudeen Abbas’s position as Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Sani also said party members should have equal opportunities regardless of when they joined. He said the APC would seek support for its candidates throughout the state.
