The Academic Staff Union of Universities has suspended its strike at three Lagos State-owned universities and directed lecturers to return to classrooms immediately.

The decision covers Lagos State University, Lagos State University of Education and Lagos State University of Science and Technology. It was announced on Friday after negotiations over staff welfare and outstanding agreements with the Lagos State Government.

The suspension does not end discussions over lecturers’ welfare. ASUU said it would continue engaging the state government to secure a comprehensive resolution of the outstanding issues.

The joint statement was signed by Olusegun Babalola, Coordinator of the Steering Committee at ASUU-LASU; Grace Abimbola, Acting Chairman of ASUU-LASUED; and Murisiku Onigemo, Chairman of ASUU-LASUSTECH.

The union thanked students and parents for their patience during the disruption, as well as traditional rulers and civil society organisations for their support. It named the Joint Action Front, Education Rights Concern and Campaign for Democratic Workers Rights among the organisations that supported the lecturers.

The strike began after a 14-day ultimatum expired without a settlement. The lecturers had sought the implementation of the December 2025 ASUU-FGN agreement, including academic tools allowance and welfare provisions for serving and retired lecturers. NaijaTrend reported the start of the action here.
