Nigerian Army troops foiled an attempted mob attack on a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps outpost in Vom, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, after angry youths mobilised to burn down the facility.

Security sources said troops responded around 11am on Tuesday following intelligence that the youths had gathered to attack the outpost in protest over the detention of a suspect, reportedly attempting to carry out jungle justice.

Evacuation Under Fire

According to counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, the troops worked with other security agencies to disperse the crowd before the situation escalated. Soldiers also provided security cover for the safe evacuation of the detained suspect to the NSCDC headquarters.

The incident highlights the volatile security environment in Plateau, where communal tensions and distrust of security agencies have repeatedly boiled over into violence.

Broader Crisis

The foiled attack came on the same day that President Tinubu summoned his NSA and CDS to the Presidential Villa over the killings in Plateau and Benue, where at least 200 people have been killed in the past three weeks. The state remains one of the most volatile in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, with cycles of retaliation that security agencies have struggled to contain.
