Soludo calls October 7 peace meeting over Aguleri–Umuoba Anam land dispute
Anambra Governor Charles Soludo has called an emergency peace and security meeting for Wednesday, October 7, over the land dispute between Amaeze Aguleri and Umuoba Anam communities.
Representatives of the affected communities are to meet at the Light House in Awka. Soludo has also directed both sides to stop hostilities and exercise restraint.
The arrangements were announced in a Saturday statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Christian Aburime, reported by Premium Times. The statement said grievances and competing claims should be presented through designated community representatives at the meeting.
The dispute involves communities in Anambra East Local Government Area. Renewed violence led to the closure of Otuocha Market, which NaijaTrend reported here.
Premium Times reported that at least five people had been killed and houses destroyed in the clash.
Aburime said police and other security agencies had been deployed to enforce law and order, protect lives and prevent further violence.
The dispute centres on competing claims to land around the Anambra River and adjoining areas. The state government referred it to the State Boundary Committee in 2025, according to Premium Times.
