The Independent National Electoral Commission will hold a national stakeholders’ meeting and press conference on Tuesday, October 6, to brief Nigerians on preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The event is scheduled for 10am at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja. INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan will address the gathering alongside other participants involved in the electoral process.

INEC said the briefing would cover the voters’ register, candidate nominations, election logistics and measures to protect the integrity of the polls. The commission described the event as marking the final 100-day countdown to the elections.

A statement by Amupitan’s spokesperson, Adedayo Oketola, said the meeting was intended to promote transparency, public communication and collaboration among institutions and groups involved in the elections.

Expected participants include political party leaders, security agencies on the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, diplomats, development partners, civil society organisations and election observers. Disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives are also expected.

Premium Times reported that the presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, while governorship and state assembly elections are set for February 6. The Tuesday briefing is expected to provide an update on preparations; INEC’s statement did not announce a change to the timetable.

Attendance at the venue will be by invitation. Accredited journalists and guests must present invitation cards or accreditation badges at security checkpoints. INEC said the proceedings would be broadcast on major national television networks and streamed on its official social media platforms.
