Plateau governor pardons 130 inmates, commutes four death sentences
Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has granted absolute pardon to 130 inmates and reduced the death sentences of four others to life imprisonment.
The decision was announced on Thursday as part of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary. The governor’s office said it followed consultation with the State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy.
Punch named the four inmates whose death sentences were commuted as Zuhumnan Musa, Jeremiah Aese, Pam Lang and Thoma Danboyi.
Those granted absolute pardon included Kamshine Gomerep, Maju Sajen, Jan Thomas and Gody Victor, among others, the newspaper reported.
The announcement formed part of Mutfwang’s Independence Day message, signed by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere. In the message, the governor urged Nigerians to protect national unity and said every citizen had a role in building a peaceful and stable country.
