ADC Slams FG Over 7% Release of Army Equipment Funds Amid Rising Insecurity
The African Democratic Congress has condemned the Federal Government for releasing only about seven per cent of the Nigerian Army’s budget for security equipment in 2025, calling it evidence of misplaced priorities.
Out of N336.76 billion approved for security equipment, only N16.71 billion was actually released. Nothing was disbursed for transport, aircraft fuel, or military barracks, according to the party.
ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi signed the statement.
Presidential Fleet vs Military Aircraft
The party highlighted what it called an “unpardonable misplacement of priority” — the full funding of the presidential air fleet while military aircraft remain grounded due to lack of resources.
“This paints a troubling picture of a government that is more concerned with comfort at the top than safety on the ground,” Abdullahi stated.
Security Consequences
ADC pointed to the recent abduction of over 400 women and children in Ngoshe, Borno State, where Boko Haram issued a N5 billion ransom demand and 72-hour ultimatum, as evidence that the government has lost control.
In April 2026 alone, insurgent groups have demanded more than N12 billion in ransom across various incidents.
“When only a fraction of security funds is released, when nothing is provided for logistics like mobility and fuel, and when equipment procurement is delayed, the result is predictable: a weakened security system,” Abdullahi explained.
The party called for urgent budgetary reform, describing the situation as a national emergency.
