15-Year-Old Herder, 13 Cattle Killed in Fresh Plateau Attack
A 15-year-old herder was killed and 13 cattle were shot dead in a fresh attack on a grazing settlement in Plateau State, according to Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria.
The group said the attack happened in Sabon Gidan Kanar, a community in Jos South Local Government Area, where armed men opened fire on herders and scattered livestock.
MACBAN Raises Fresh Security Alarm
Plateau MACBAN chairman Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo said the teenager, identified as Sadi Aliyu, died during the assault while 11 other cattle were still missing after the attackers fled.
He described the incident as another sign that rural communities in the state remain exposed despite repeated security meetings and public assurances.
Tension Persists in Grazing Communities
The latest violence adds to the long-running insecurity around farming and grazing settlements in Plateau, where reprisal attacks and livestock destruction often deepen local tension.
Security agencies had not announced arrests at the time the reports were published, but community leaders were again calling for a stronger field presence in flashpoint areas.
