Uber has wound down its operations in Nigeria, ending a 12-year run in one of Africa’s largest transport markets.
The ride-hailing company said the exit took effect on September 2, 2026. It told users it made the decision after reviewing the business and apologised for the disruption the move may cause.
Uber launched in Lagos in 2014 and later became one of the most recognisable app-based transport services in the country, connecting riders with independent drivers in major urban markets.
The company said its help centre would remain available until September 23 to handle final account questions from customers.
Daily Trust also reported that Uber announced wider job cuts affecting about 3,300 positions, with chief executive Dara Khosrowshahi saying the company was removing layers and simplifying team structures globally.
The Nigeria exit leaves riders and drivers to adjust to other transport platforms and local alternatives after more than a decade of Uber activity in the market.
