Troops Rescue Nine More Kidnap Victims On Kogi Road

Troops have rescued nine more kidnapped commuters after a gun battle with suspected kidnappers along the Ajaokuta-Itobe Road in Kogi State.

The latest rescue happened in the same troubled corridor where security agencies have been searching for abducted passengers. NaijaTrend earlier reported the rescue of 15 Kogi kidnap victims here.

Daily Trust, citing an operational report made available to the News Agency of Nigeria, said the Tuesday incident occurred in Ofu Local Government Area after suspected kidnappers attacked commuters and took an unspecified number of passengers away.

Troops from 21 Battalion at Patrol Base Itobe moved to the scene and found an abandoned Hiace bus and Toyota Sienna. They followed the attackers’ withdrawal route and made contact with them around Adumu community in Dekina Local Government Area.

Premium Times reported that the kidnappers fled after the gun battle, leaving behind nine victims: two elderly men, two elderly women, four other adult males and an infant. The rescued victims were handed over to the Police Area Command in Itobe, while troops continued searching for other possible victims and the fleeing attackers.
