Troops foil two abduction attempts and rescue 10 victims in Zamfara
Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled two abduction attempts and rescued 10 people in Zamfara State.
The military said the operations took place on Sunday in Maru and Tsafe Local Government Areas. In Maru, troops of Sector 2 responded after terrorists abducted villagers at Kade Daba in Kanoma District.
The troops moved to the area, engaged the attackers and rescued three victims immediately. A further search of the area led to the rescue of one more person, bringing the Maru rescue figure to four.
In a separate incident on the Tsafe-Funtua Road, troops on a picketing operation heard gunshots around Kwanoni and moved towards the location. The military said the troops encountered terrorists withdrawing through nearby high ground and forced them to flee.
Before troops arrived, the attackers had set a Sharon vehicle ablaze while trying to abduct its occupants. The occupants escaped before the vehicle was fully burnt, and troops rescued six people from another vehicle that had lost control because of the gunfire.
The theatre command commended the troops for their response and said operations would continue across the Joint Task Force’s area of responsibility.
