A passenger critically injured in Friday’s Lagos–Ibadan Expressway crash has died at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu, Ogun State, the state’s traffic agency said on Saturday.

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) announced the death in an update shared with journalists by its spokesperson, Akinbiyi Babatunde.

The agency had initially reported 13 people injured and no deaths. It said the passenger who died was the only casualty taken to the teaching hospital in critical condition.

The update followed a hospital visit on Saturday morning by TRACE’s Saapade unit commander, identified as Oridota P.O. His report said hospital management informed the team of the death.

According to TRACE’s initial account, a Mazda bus carrying 18 people overturned after a tyre burst and hit a concrete barrier on the Lagos-bound carriageway.

The agency said the injured included two men, eight women and three children. Its report listed nine patients at Divine Hospital in Ogere, three at Isara General Hospital and one at the teaching hospital.

The update did not identify the passenger who died or give the person’s age or sex.
