Tinubu Warns He’ll Use Full Powers of Office Against Plateau ‘Troublemakers’

President Bola Tinubu has issued his sharpest public warning yet over the Plateau State killings, vowing to deploy the full powers of his office against those responsible for financing or instigating the violence.

Tinubu made the statement Tuesday night at the Presidential Villa during a high-level meeting with Plateau State stakeholders — led by Governor Caleb Mutfwang and including all living former governors of the state. The session ran for several hours and ended around 8pm. The Federal Government also approved ₦2 billion in relief for victims of the attacks.

What Tinubu Said

“If you identify and you know the name of troublemakers, agents or provocateurs who want to continue killing or instigate killing, let us know. We will use the instrument of office to deal with them,” the President said.

He stressed that security agencies are ready to act once credible intelligence is provided, and that the cycle of recurring violence must end. The language — “troublemakers” and “agents or provocateurs” — is more direct than earlier statements on the Plateau crisis, which focused on deployments and condemnations rather than named accountability.

New Peace Framework

Tinubu also endorsed a newly constituted peace committee of former Plateau governors, directing them to work as a single body reviewing existing white papers on past conflicts and returning with consolidated recommendations for implementation.

“Forget those committees you mentioned to me, if it’s not working, it’s not working. Consider this group as the committee until we find a lasting solution,” he said, ordering inactive or ineffective committees restructured or dissolved.

Plateau has seen multiple presidential interventions over the years without a lasting resolution. This time, the President tied his warning to a concrete intelligence request from Plateau leaders — and put the ₦2bn relief package alongside the accountability threat in the same meeting.
