President Bola Tinubu has publicly commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, saying he has not been disappointed by the FCT minister’s performance in office.

The President explained that Wike is delivering on his assignment of transforming Abuja into a world-class city under his administration.

Tinubu spoke on Wednesday during the inauguration of the Federal High Court Judges Quarters in the Katampe area of Abuja, as part of activities marking his third year in office.

The President, who was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the event, said: “At this juncture, I’m forced to appreciate our dynamic Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike. When I gave Wike the assignment to transform Abuja into a world class city, I knew this capacity to deliver.”

“Wike, you have not disappointed me, from fixing critical road networks to ensuring the timely completion of projects like this Judges Quarters, you have proven that performance is the only currency that matters in public service,” Tinubu said.

The President also used the event to inaugurate several other completed projects across the FCT, including road interchanges and public infrastructure, as part of his administration’s third-anniversary programme.

Tinubu’s endorsement of Wike comes against the backdrop of persistent political tensions between the FCT minister and a faction of his former party, the PDP, and signals that Wike remains firmly within the president’s inner political circle.

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, was appointed Minister of the FCT in August 2023 and has overseen a wave of infrastructure and demolition projects in Abuja that have drawn both praise and criticism.
