At least three people have been killed in an attack on Anyiase community in Moon Council Ward, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.

Daily Post and Daily Trust reported that residents said the violence took place between Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. A former supervisory councillor in the area, Akerigba Lawrence, said attackers invaded farmlands at about 3:20 p.m. on Thursday.

The two farmers killed at the scene were identified in both reports as Asongo Nagwebe and Tarzan Agbahegh. Lawrence said a man and a woman were also injured and taken to the General Hospital in Jato-Aka.

The male victim later died while being referred to Makurdi for further medical attention, bringing the reported death toll from the farm attack to three.

Lawrence also alleged that suspected attackers blocked the road at Kyoawen Junction on Friday morning and opened fire on a commercial bus, but the number of casualties from that road incident had not been confirmed.

Daily Post said efforts to reach Kwande council chairman Vitalis Neji and Benue police spokesperson DSP Udeme Edet were unsuccessful before publication. Daily Trust also reported that confirmation from the local government and police was not available as of press time.
