Ten Die, Six Injured In Ogun Road Crash
Ten people have died and six others were injured in a crash at Saapade Bridge on the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway in Ogun State.
The crash happened on Sunday night and involved a white Sinotruk truck and a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number EKY 290 YM.
The Federal Road Safety Corps said 18 people were involved: 15 adult males, two adult females and one male child.
FRSC figures reported by Punch and Channels TV show that nine adult males and one male child died. Four adult males and two adult females were injured, while two adult males escaped unhurt.
The corps linked the crash to speed violation, wrongful overtaking and dangerous driving. It said the truck driver had reportedly reversed on the highway after missing his direction before the approaching bus rammed into the truck.
Rescue officers took the injured victims to Victory Hospital in Ogere. The bodies of the dead were deposited at FOS Mortuary in Ipara.
The police at Ishara Division took custody of the crashed vehicles, while FRSC officials said traffic had been cleared from the scene.
Ogun Sector Commander Oludare Ogunjobi warned commercial drivers and truck operators against reversing on highways, excessive speed and other dangerous driving habits.
