Sule Orders Action Over Alleged Sale Of Donated Hospital Items In Nasarawa

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has ordered action against staff of Umaisha General Hospital in Toto Local Government Area after allegations that donated hospital items were sold.

The case centres on items donated by Sa’ad Abdullahi, the state lawmaker representing Umaisha/Ugya Constituency. The reported donation included orthopaedic mattresses and fans meant to improve conditions at the hospital.

Premium Times reported that Sule ordered the dismissal and prosecution of staff found responsible, while Punch reported that he had asked for an immediate investigation and expected a report before the weekend.

The allegations gained attention after a video showed Abdullahi at the hospital asking management to explain the whereabouts of the donated items. Premium Times said the lawmaker donated 50 fans, 50 orthopaedic mattresses and other materials. Punch reported that the items included 50 orthopaedic mattresses, 50 ceiling fans and 40 standing fans.

Sule gave the directive while speaking in Lafia on Wednesday. He asked the Commissioner for Health to investigate the matter and said officials found culpable should face disciplinary and legal steps.

The governor also directed the Head of Service and the Chairman of the State Civil Service Commission to ensure that the matter is handled through the proper government channels.

The case has raised fresh questions about how public health facilities track donated materials and protect items meant for patients.
