Soludo’s Chief of Staff Escapes Death as Gunmen Kill Two Policemen, Two Civilians in Anambra
Gunmen have killed two policemen and two civilians in an ambush on the convoy of Chief Ben Nwankwo, the Chief of Staff to Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.
The attack occurred along the Amansea–Awa–Ufuma Road in Orumba North Local Government Area on Sunday night as the convoy was returning from an official assignment. The Chief of Staff escaped unhurt, while some civilians in the entourage sustained injuries during the gun duel.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra, Ikioye Orutugu, confirmed the incident, stating that two officers were lost in the ambush and the command had intensified efforts to track down those responsible.
In a statement, the state Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, said: “This was more than an attack on one person. It was an attack on the peace, security, and democratic order of our state. Sadly, four people lost their lives and deserve justice.”
Mefor noted that the attack after more than a year of peace in the state would not affect the government’s determination to tackle crime.
