Soldiers killed in Sokoto ambush laid to rest

Three soldiers and two police officers killed in separate attacks in Sokoto State have been buried with full military honours.

Punch reported that the soldiers died when their vehicle hit an improvised explosive device planted by bandits on the Isa-Bargaja axis in Isa Local Government Area. The two police officers were killed in a separate bandit ambush in Tureta Local Government Area.

Colonel Ahmed Usman, Security Adviser to Governor Ahmed Aliyu, said in a statement on Tuesday that five security personnel lost their lives in total.

Daily Trust reported that the soldiers were killed on Saturday while responding to a distress call from Bargaja community. Their funeral took place at the Giginya Barracks in Sokoto, with Deputy Governor Idris Muhammad Gobir representing the governor.

Daily Trust linked the attack area to the Bello Turji bandit network, which has been active across Sokoto and Zamfara states.
