Six To Nine Farmers Reported Killed In Kaduna Bandit Attack
Armed bandits attacked farmers at Kujijiro farmlands in Kuyello District of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, Kaduna State, on Monday, with reports giving different casualty figures.
Premium Times reported that at least nine farmers were killed, citing local sources and community leader Ishaq Kasai, a former chairman of the Birnin-Gwari Emirate Progressive Union.
Daily Post reported six deaths, citing a statement by Dr Isah Muhammad, chairman of the Birnin Gwari Emirate Progressives Union.
Both reports place the attack at the same farmlands in Kuyello District on June 22. The casualty range should therefore be treated cautiously until police or state authorities issue a final figure.
BEPU said the victims were attacked while carrying out farming activities and warned that continued attacks could discourage farmers from returning to their fields during the season.
The group called on federal and Kaduna State authorities, the Defence Ministry, the National Security Adviser, the armed forces and police to intensify operations in Kuyello and the wider eastern Birnin Gwari area.
