Seven Killed, Three Injured In Kogi Road Crash Near Osara
Seven people have died and three others were injured after a Siena bus crashed into a stationary truck near Osara in Kogi State.
The Federal Road Safety Corps said the crash happened on Sunday afternoon along the Okene-Lokoja road in Adavi Local Government Area. The bus, registered as Edo SGD 517 XL, was travelling from Auchi to Abuja.
Kogi FRSC Sector Commander Lawal Fagge said the driver was speeding when a tyre burst, causing him to lose control and hit the truck by the roadside.
Six occupants of the Siena bus died at the scene. Daily Trust reported that a motor mate who was helping repair a punctured tyre on the truck also died. Three injured survivors were taken to hospital in Okene, while the dead were deposited at a hospital morgue for autopsy.
Fagge urged drivers to check their vehicles before trips, obey speed limits and approach broken-down vehicles with caution.
The Kogi crash is separate from other fatal road accidents reported earlier in the day in Ogun and Kwara.
