Senate Approves ₦50m For Families Of Teachers, Security Personnel Killed In Oyo Abduction

The Senate has approved a ₦50 million donation for families of five people killed during the abduction and rescue of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The money is to be shared at ₦10 million per family. Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the decision during plenary on Wednesday, after lawmakers paid tribute to the teachers and security personnel who died in the crisis.

The payment covers the families of two teachers and three security personnel. Premium Times identified the teachers as Michael Oyedokun and Pastor John Olaleye. It also named the fallen security personnel as Lieutenant F. A. Isaac of the Nigerian Army, Private Silas Musa of the 81 Battalion and Sergeant Abena John Jerome of the Nigeria Police Force.

Daily Trust reported that 39 schoolchildren and seven teachers abducted in Oriire were recently rescued by security operatives. NaijaTrend earlier reported the post-rescue reunion at LAUTECH here.

Akpabio said the donation was meant to support the children and dependants left behind by the victims. Vanguard reported that the Senate also commended President Bola Tinubu, the armed forces and other security agencies over the rescue operation.
