Reps Committee Orders NRS Recruitment Suspended, Warns Zacch Adedeji

The House of Representatives Committee on Federal Character has directed the Nigeria Revenue Service to suspend recruitment activities and warned of possible sanctions against its chairman, Zacch Adedeji.

The committee said the directive followed what it described as Adedeji’s repeated failure to honour invitations and provide an up-to-date nominal roll of the service.

Daily Trust reported that the committee, chaired by Ahmed Idris Wase, said it had written to the NRS several times and asked Adedeji to appear before it, but that he did not attend the latest meeting.

The committee also said it had directed the Federal Character Commission not to grant approvals or waivers connected to NRS recruitment while the oversight matter remains unresolved.

It said it could invoke Sections 88 and 89 of the Constitution, which concern legislative investigations and powers to summon witnesses, if the agency continued to disregard its requests.

The directive is a position of the House committee. No response from the NRS or Adedeji was included in the report.
