Portable and Carter Efe are fighting tomorrow. That sentence alone is enough to break the internet in Nigeria — and DAZN is counting on it.

The Fight Card

The bout is set for May 1 at the Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, as part of “Chaos in the Ring 4,” promoted by Balmoral Group and Amir Khan’s AK Promotions. DAZN is streaming it live as its Nigeria platform launch event — a deliberate play to introduce the sports streaming service to Nigerian audiences through two names they already know and care about.

Portable — real name Habeeb Badmus — comes in with an unbeaten celebrity boxing record, having knocked out both Charles Okocha and Speed Darlington to win two belts. He made his intentions clear at the pre-fight face-off: “I will use you to collect my third belt. Charles Okocha was bigger than you, Speed Darlington was bigger than you and I beat them.” Carter Efe was unbothered. “One punch and you fall,” he shot back.

What DAZN Is Really After

The celebrity angle is strategic. DAZN has been expanding its boxing rights globally, but breaking into new markets requires more than fight cards — it requires familiar faces. In Nigeria, where Portable and Carter Efe already command serious social media engagement, their rivalry is a ready-made promotional machine. DAZN gets exposure; the fighters get a bigger platform.

The card also features a main professional event: Ezra Arenyeka vs Godday Appah, billed as a WBO Peace Fight between Itsekiri and Ijaw communities of the Niger Delta. That’s an interesting layer — mixing community symbolism with celebrity spectacle on the same card.

Streaming starts May 1. Whether you’re there for the banter or the boxing, you’ll need a DAZN subscription to watch.
