Police Rescue Two Abandoned Babies In Abuja

Police in the Federal Capital Territory have rescued two abandoned babies in separate incidents in Kurudu and Gwagwalada, Abuja.

The command said both incidents happened on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. Its spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said one baby boy was found around Obodo Street, Kurudu, after a resident heard a child crying and discovered the baby wrapped in cloth inside a carton.

Officers from the Kurudu Division and the Juveniles and Women Care Department went to the scene and took the baby to hospital for medical checks. The police said he was stable and had been handed over to the Social Welfare Department after documentation.

In the second case, a resident in Gwagwalada reported hearing a baby crying outside his gate at about 9:40pm. Officers later rescued a baby girl and also took her for medical assessment before the welfare handover process.

The police said efforts were underway to trace the mothers and establish the circumstances behind both cases. They urged residents to report suspicious movements and cases involving vulnerable children quickly.
