Police Rescue Six Abducted Children In Abia, Arrest Suspect
Police in Abia State have rescued six abducted children and arrested a 51-year-old man suspected of involvement in child trafficking.
The suspect was identified in police accounts carried by Punch and Premium Times as Nnamdi Lazarus, from Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, who was living in Uratta, Aba.
Police said operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit in Aba North arrested him after an intelligence-led operation. The children were found in his custody and have since been reunited with their families.
Premium Times, citing the police statement, identified the rescued children as Nnenna Ogbuogu, 5, and Nwanne Ogbuogu, 3, from Abriba; Amanda Emmanuella, 3, Destiny Emmanuel, 7, and Anointing Emmanuel, 5, from Item; and Ihechi Obasi, 7, also from Item.
Abia police spokesperson Maureen Chinaka said investigations were continuing to find other members of the suspected syndicate. Police said the suspect would be charged to court after the investigation is completed.
The case is still at allegation stage. Police have not announced any conviction, and the reports did not mention a court plea.
