Police Rescue Pregnant Women, Children From Suspected Ogun Baby Factory
Police in Ogun State say they have dismantled a suspected baby factory in Mowe, rescued two pregnant women and four children, and arrested six suspects linked to the alleged operation.
The command said the raid took place around 8am on Monday at Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole in the Mowe area, after intelligence on alleged human trafficking and illegal adoption activities.
The rescued pregnant women were identified as Ilesanmi Foluke, 23, who was seven months pregnant, and Ejekwa Melody, 20, who was eight months pregnant. Police also said two boys and two girls were rescued during the operation.
The suspects named by police were Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and Oseni Kusamotu Idaya, described as an attending nurse.
Police said further checks led officers to a hospital in the Mowe axis, where another alleged victim, Blessing Bright Effiong, 26, had reportedly given birth to a baby boy on August 20. The command said the newborn could not be accounted for and that investigators would try to locate the child.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta. Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni praised the officers involved and urged residents to keep giving credible information to the command.
