Police Rescue Nine Travellers After Zamfara Highway Attack
Police in Zamfara say nine travellers have been rescued after bandits attacked vehicles along the Gusau-Funtua Federal Highway in Tsafe Local Government Area.
The attack was reported by Vanguard and Daily Trust as the same highway incident. The victims were intercepted by armed men before police engaged the attackers and rescued them.
Daily Trust reported that the rescue followed a gun battle with the bandits. Vanguard, in its RSS body for the same report, said the police command foiled the attack and rescued nine victims who had been intercepted along the highway.
The incident adds to continuing security pressure on road users in Zamfara and other parts of the North West, where travellers have faced kidnappings and armed attacks on major routes.
The reports did not provide the names of the rescued travellers. They also did not report any deaths from the highway attack.
