Police Rescue Abducted Ondo Woman, Recover Stolen Vehicle After Gun Battle
The Ondo State Police Command has rescued a 61-year-old woman, Mrs Modupe Oladele, who was abducted by armed men in Owo, and recovered her stolen vehicle after a gun battle.
Punch, Daily Post and Channels Television reported that the victim was abducted in the early hours of 23 June 2026 after armed men invaded her residence in Owo, Owo Local Government Area.
According to the reports, the assailants also took away her Toyota Matrix vehicle with registration number WWW-434-AG.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the Divisional Police Officer of B Division in Owo received a distress call at about 2:50 a.m. and immediately mobilised operatives to pursue the suspects.
Channels Television reported that police intercepted the fleeing suspects around the outskirts and bush area of Ojana Phase 3, where an exchange of gunfire followed.
Daily Post reported that the victim was rescued and the vehicle recovered after the suspects fled into the surrounding bush. Police said some of the fleeing suspects were believed to have sustained gunshot injuries.
The police also recovered two expended cartridges, a sandal believed to have been abandoned by one suspect and a torchlight. Jimoh said efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and continue the investigation.
This is different from NaijaTrend’s earlier Ondo kidnapping story involving Amotekun and a father with three sons. The current incident concerns Mrs Oladele’s abduction, a police pursuit and recovery of a Toyota Matrix vehicle.
The suspects had not been arrested at the time of the reports, so the draft does not present the fleeing men as identified or convicted.
