Police rescue 16-year-old kidnap victim at Anambra checkpoint

Police in Anambra say a 16-year-old kidnap victim was rescued after his abductors dropped him near a checkpoint in Onitsha and fled.

The victim, identified in the reports as Favour Ayogu, was allegedly taken from Igboeze South Local Government Area of Enugu State and moved towards Anambra. Police said he was dropped from a black Toyota Highlander near a checkpoint at Ekene Junction on Oguta Road after a joint patrol team moved to intercept the suspects.

Officers said they rescued the boy and prevented further harm, while the suspects escaped. The police also said they had intensified efforts to trace the people behind the abduction.

Punch and Daily Trust reported the same rescue, citing the Anambra State Police Command. The command appealed to residents of Igboeze South and Ibagwa-Aka in Enugu State with information about the victim’s family to contact the nearest police station, as efforts continued to reunite the boy with his relatives. No arrest had been announced in the case.
