Police rescue 16-year-old abducted in Enugu after Anambra checkpoint scare
Police in Anambra State have rescued a 16-year-old boy who was allegedly abducted in Enugu State and abandoned near a security checkpoint in Onitsha.
The state police command said a joint patrol team intercepted the teenager at Ekene Junction along Oguta Road after he was reportedly dropped from a black Toyota Highlander SUV close to the checkpoint.
Premium Times reported that the victim was abducted in Igboeze South Local Government Area of Enugu State before he was abandoned in Anambra. The report said police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the rescue in a statement on Monday.
Punch identified the teenager as Favour Ayogu and said the rescue followed joint security operations on the evening of September 13. The report said the suspected abductors fled after security operatives suspected their movement near the checkpoint.
The police said surveillance and intelligence measures had been stepped up to trace those responsible. The command also appealed for information that could help reunite the teenager with his family in Enugu State.
