Police Probe Calabar Bolt Driver’s Death
Police in Cross River State have opened an investigation into the death of a 29-year-old Bolt driver, Emmanuel Effiong Ita, whose body was found in connection with his Honda City car along the Target-Udy King axis of Calabar.
The command said Ita, a resident of Ikot Effanga Mkpa, was found on Friday after an incident whose full circumstances had not yet been established. A preliminary examination at the mortuary found an injury on his chest.
Police spokesperson Sunday Eitokpah said officers were sent to the scene after the command received information about the incident, but the driver’s remains had already been taken by his family to a hospital mortuary. The vehicle has been recovered, and police said evidence is being preserved for forensic and further investigative checks.
The case is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a more detailed investigation. Police also asked residents to avoid speculation while detectives work to establish what happened.
Vanguard reported that Ita was attacked after picking up passengers, while Premium Times said the police were still treating the circumstances as unclear. The confirmed point across the reports is that police have opened a formal investigation and recovered the vehicle.
