Police Kill Two Bandits Terrorising Abuja, Rescue Five Abducted Victims
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has shot dead two bandits and rescued five kidnapped victims in an operation targeting a gang that has been terrorising Abuja communities.
Daily Post reported that FCT Police Commissioner Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi disclosed that he personally led the operation that resulted in the deaths of the two gang members. The five rescued victims were abducted from Paze community in Byazhin ward of Bwari Area Council last week.
The gang had kidnapped five people including a pastor. A local vigilante member identified as Shuaibu Yerima was shot dead during the invasion of Paze community last Thursday.
The police team, comprising operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the NPF Intelligence Response Team, and Kubwa Area Command, worked with local hunters and vigilante groups. Two suspects identified as Icheh Mohammadu and Abubakar Usman were also arrested during the operation, while other gang members fled into nearby hills.
“During the operation, the police team recovered two AK-47 rifles with magazines, while two of the gang members were arrested during the crossfire,” Sanusi said.
The police commissioner said the rescue operation was launched at around 9:00 PM on Tuesday, involving an intensive search across Paze and Byazhin communities. The rescued victims have been taken to a hospital for medical attention, and efforts are ongoing to reunite them with their families.
