Police, Hunters Search Kogi Forest For Abducted FRSC Officials, Mourners
Police, soldiers, local hunters and vigilantes are searching forests in Kogi State after gunmen abducted nine mourners, including two Federal Road Safety Corps officials.
The victims were travelling with the remains of Augustine Ikwue, a former Deputy Corps Commander of the FRSC, from Osogbo in Osun State to Otukpo in Benue State for burial when their vehicle was ambushed around 6 p.m. on Thursday along the Ochadamu-Ejule road in Ofu Local Government Area.
Premium Times reported that Kogi FRSC Sector Commander Lawal Fagge confirmed that nine people were taken and that the abductors later abandoned Ikwue’s body near Ejule. The corpse was recovered on Friday and handed over to the family before burial on Saturday.
Daily Trust also reported that police, soldiers, local hunters and vigilantes had been deployed to the area to rescue the victims and track down the abductors.
The reports said the search was still ongoing as security teams combed the forest corridor around the route.
