Police Arrest Three Bayelsa Ministry Workers Over Alleged N500m Equipment Theft

Police in Bayelsa State have arrested three staff members of the Ministry of Labour, Empowerment and Productivity over alleged theft of government equipment valued at more than N500 million.
The state police spokesperson, DSP Musa Mohammed, named the suspects as Wadi Igiran, 51; Nikade Sunday, 59; and Azabia Yakie, 59, who was identified as Head of the Productivity Department in the ministry.
Police said the missing equipment included a 110 KVA Perkins generator, a forklift, lathe machines, electric filling machines and other government assets.
The command said the case followed a petition to the Commissioner of Police after an inspection of the ministry’s equipment store within the Ministry of Transport premises in Yenagoa on June 22, 2026.
Police said investigation had begun into alleged criminal conspiracy and stealing of government-owned equipment.
