Police Arrest Five Suspected Telecom Vandals In Lagos
Police in Lagos have arrested five suspected telecommunication vandals and recovered a truckload of suspected stolen iron rods in the Ibeju-Lekki area of the state.
The suspects were identified as Mohammed Shaibu, 26; Musa Zakari, 29; Abdullahi Bala, 22; Salisu Musa, 18; and Yahuza Bala, 20. Police said they were caught allegedly stealing iron poles meant for the construction of telecommunication masts.
The Lagos State Police Command said the suspects were arrested while conveying the materials in a truck. The case has been transferred to detectives at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba.
Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi said efforts were ongoing to arrest other suspects who fled and to determine the full scope of the alleged vandalism. The command said the operation was supported by the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army.
Lagos Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai said the command would continue to protect critical infrastructure and urged residents to report suspicious activity in their communities.
