Police in Plateau State have arrested female students after a viral video showed a student being attacked in Pankshin Local Government Area.

The command said Commissioner of Police Ayodeji Faniyan ordered the Pankshin Area Commander to investigate the video and arrest those involved after it came to the attention of the police.

Police spokesman Alfred Alabo said the arrested students would be moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department after initial checks. The command also said the suspects would be charged in court when investigators complete their work.

The case has drawn attention because the alleged assault was filmed and spread online. Police warned that people who record and upload violent attacks may expose themselves to separate offences, including cybercrime-related allegations, depending on the circumstances.

The command urged young people and other residents not to take the law into their own hands, even when there is a dispute or alleged wrongdoing. It said violence and jungle justice remain criminal acts.
